Comprehensive Family & Sports Chiropractic Care

Proper Assessment & Diagnosis

In order to treat the problem, we need to know what the problem is. We properly examine and assess your health problems with a thorough history, orthopedic tests, and protocols from the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) to accurately diagnose your conditions so they can be managed safely and effectively.

Active Release Technique (ART)

Active release technique (ART) treats your body's soft tissue by combining manipulation and movement. ART entails identifying, isolating, and targeting the affected area to break up scar tissue. This promotes blood flow and faster healing of injuries. ART treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions treated with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

Corrective/Therapeutic Exercise

It’s no doubt that exercise is beneficial and often essential to rehabilitation. It's not easy to know which exercises or stretches you should be doing or avoiding.  Part of our treatment protocols are instructing and reviewing specific exercises to make sure you are performing them safely and correctly. Exercises and stretches might be prescribed to strengthen or rebalance your body to help you recover and balance lifestyle habits such as work posture.

Imaging (MRI, X-rays)

Like most clinics, we don't have an X-ray, MRI, or lab. However, if the doctor decides you need special imaging or tests, we have several imaging centers and labs throughout the Denver area for you to go to. We'll get the results sent directly to our clinic and review them with you at your visit.

Patient Education

We encourage you to completely understand what's going on with your body and health conditions. It’s important to us that we educate you on what the problem is, what caused it, how heal it, how to fix it, and how to prevent it. Knowledge about your health in everyday life is vital for your recovery, prevention, performance, and longevity.

IASTM/Graston

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is a manual therapy technique used in the treatment of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries. IASTM assists in reducing adhesions and increases healing rates of targeted tissue.  There are both mechanical and neurological approaches to IASTM treatments. Being trained in several IASTM techniques including Graston technique, Gua-Sha and Rockblades, our doctors tailor your IASTM treatments to your needs and efficacy. The tools may be hard-edged, but the techniques don’t need to be aggressive to deliver superior patient outcomes.

Home-Exercises

Home-care and exercises are often prescribed to help you speed up recovery and rehabilitation. Our integrated online software allows the doctor to send you your exercises where you can view video instructions in case you forget how to perform them and keep you accountable.

Co-Management of Treatment

If you are working with another health professional, we welcome an open communication with them so that we can all get on the same page about your care.  Whether it's a personal trainer, physical therapist, massage therapist, acupuncturist, medical doctor, naturopath or another chiropractor, we can all work together to give you the best outcome of your care and recovery.

Custom chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments are not one-size-fits-all. Each chiropractic adjustment is tailored to your specific needs and preferences from the type of adjustment to how gentle the adjustment is delivered. Some of the most common techniques we use are diversified techniques, drop-table, and activator. We are also well trained to adjust more than just the neck and back including ribs, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbow and wrists.

Soft-Tissue Therapy

Most injuries usually include injuries to soft-tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, nerves, joint capsules).  Myofascial Release Techniques, muscle flossing, proprioceptive-neuromuscular-facilitation (PNF), stretching, ART, Graston, and therapeutic exercises are common during the course of care from our sports chiropractic clinic, providing you even more tools to help you recover and become healthier and stronger.

Kinesiology Taping / RockTape

Kinesiology tape can have a different therapeutic effect depending on how it is applied to the body. It can reduce pain, decompress swelling and inflammation, increase endurance and delay fatigue, normalize muscle tone, and distribute physical stress. It is usually applied at the end of your visit if you and the doctor decide it will be helpful, and can stay on your body for up to 5 days.

Doctor Referral

Some conditions or procedures are outside of the scope of chiropractic or may benefit from being co-managed with a specialist to supplement your chiropractic care. If we think you should be seen by another doctor or health professional, we'll provide you with a referral.

Chiropractic Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work with insurance?

Yes. If your health insurance covers out-of-network chiropractic care, we provide you an itemized receipt or “super bill” to submit to your insurance. The fee for service is collected at your visit and you are reimbursed directly from your insurance. Dr. Michael is committed to providing you with the best personalized care possible and working in-network with insurance unfortunately doesn’t allow Dr. Michael to spend the sufficient amount of time that the patient deserves.

What’s a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized receipt used by healthcare providers which details services provided to a patient and the amount paid on the date of service.

How many appointments will it take?

Each patient varies in the amount of appointments they need. The number and frequency of visits depends on the injury, severity of the injury, and every day lifestyle. This we will decide together within the first few appointments.

Why is the Initial appointment more?

The initial appointment runs up to an hour in length and includes a full assessment as well as the study of your complaint. In this appointment we are setting the groundwork for success.

What’s the difference between the initial appointment and all other appointments?

The initial appointment gives us our foundation and allows us to learn about your lifestyle and conditions. All other appointments follow a strategic care plan to help you heal, correct the cause, prevent future issues, and become stronger than before.

What’s “popping” sound that is sometimes heard during a chiropractic adjustment?

Synovial fluid in your joints contains oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide gases. When a joint in adjusted, the joint capsule is stretched and the joint volume is increased by as much as 15-20%. This creates a partial vacuum and the gas rapidly releases due to the pressure change, creating the "popping" or "cracking" sound.

Will I be sore after treatment?

It’s definitely possible and often expected that you may feel soreness after the treatment regardless of the stage of healing. The soreness can last from 1-3 days and is completely normal.  During an acute injury, soreness may be due to inflammation. During a chronic injury, soreness may be due to the treatment releasing trapped chemicals and creating new “good” inflammation. This chemical flow of "old out, new in" is essential for tissue healing.

How can chiropractors help with so many conditions?

Great question! Many musculoskeletal conditions are either directly or indirectly related to joint motion, soft-tissue function or nervous system function. Whether it’s a specific joint problem, soft-tissue problem, neurological issue or vascular system issue, improving joint motion and correcting the underlying deficit can help with many conditions. (See list of conditions managed)

Once I get treated, do I have to start going forever?

Of course not! Patients often come in while working to heal an injury and correct the cause of injury. Most patients continue to seek care to prevent future injuries, or improve their physical health for longevity or performance. For this reason, it’s common for people to continue regular chiropractic care while others come as-needed. It’s your choice.
